The Slip Dress

What single piece of clothing can you wear to a black tie event, can be worn with a blazer, or paired with sneakers, worn with boots, can easily go from day to night, and comfortable enough to wear to bed? Ok, I already gave away the answer! But seriously, the slip dress can do all that and more.

When I was young, I remember my mom wearing a slip dress strictly as an undergarment, under a dress or skirt. This was back in the 70's and 80's. Years later, I never imagined the slip dress would be worn as the main outfit, or that it would become a wardrobe staple.

The traditional slip dress was cut on the bias with spaghetti straps. The updated slip dress gained popularity in 1995 when Kate Moss famously wore a version by John Galliano. Courtney Love officially made it cool in true "grunge" style.

The past 7 years has seen the revival of various 90's styles, including the slip dress. It is now available in different lengths, colors, and prints, at all price points. I love the versatility of the slip dress and how you can wear it with nearly anything and look chic, not to mention it being incredibly comfortable. Wear it with stilettos, sneakers, boots, sweaters, or blazers. You can even belt it! Whatever your comfort level, try the slip dress and prepare to fall in love. And if a full on dress is too much silk for you, try a slip skirt or a silk camisole. Here are a few of my current favorite slip dresses.
