The Loafer Edit
Footwear trends are always evolving. The heel shape, the toe shape, feminine vs. masculine. And we have the classics - the sneaker, the ballet flat, the plain pump. Now you can add the loafer to your collection of footwear classics. Walk this way as I introduce you to the new staple style!
Loafers were inspired by a Norwegian fisherman's shoe and first produced by Northern europeans in the 1930's. Penny loafers were named such because they had an added strap across the front of the foot. Small children would put a penny in the slot of the strap in case they needed to use the pay-phone to call home in case of emergency.
These days the loafer comes in an array of styles. Lug sole loafers are great paired back to denim and trousers. Some designer brands are adding their signature logo, while others are keeping it sleek and simple. Whatever your preference, this is a great alternative to sneakers and can be just as comfortable. Below are a few of my current favorites.
