The Best Boots For Denim
When I'm fitting a client, I'm looking for the outfit to have right proportions. I want to make sure the the top, the pants, the shoes and any accessories strike the right balance. The whole outfit should work together and each piece should compliment each other to create an updated, modern look.
Colder weather calls for getting your favorite boots out of storage, and you'll want to start thinking about how your favorite jeans will look with your favorite boots. You'll want to think about the length of the pant and the shape of the boots, because not all boot styles work with all denim styles. So I've put together a few unofficial "rules" when it comes to choosing the right boots for your jeans. By applying these simple tips, you'll have a better chance of creating a well balanced outfit and creating the right proportions, without too much effort.
1. Don't let the hem of your jeans get caught in your boots. This will cause a sloppy and unkept look. Instead, cuff your jeans ONCE to create a bit of space between the hem and the top of the boot. Alternately, choose a pair of jeans that are sufficiently cropped right above the bootie, exposing a bit of skin. You may also want to wear a pair of jeans that are long enough to cover the top of the boot, for a clean and modern look.
2. Wear a pointed or square toe shape with wide leg jeans. In my previous blog, The Denim Edit I discussed the wide leg denim as an updated denim option. When wearing this style, you'll want to make sure you choose a boot (or shoe) with a pointed or square toe shape as it creates a more elongated and polished look. You'll want to avoid wearing wide leg pants with either a round toe boot or a boot with a chunky sole as it adds too much additional volume to the pant.
3. When wearing tall boots, opt for dark denim fitted jeans tucked into your boots for cleaner lines. You can also wear a straight leg trouser with tall boots for a more sophisticated look. This can also apply to a lower or mid shaft boot. Both round toe and pointed toe boots work well here. Tall flat boots are a great casual option as well.
