Holiday Dressing
There are 3 main categories one falls into when a major holiday rolls around. 1. You are the one hosting and having people over, 2. you are going to someone's house, or 3. you're going to a restaurant or venue.
Whatever your plans for celebrating with loved ones, you're going to be around those that matter most to you and thus want your look to be festive and fun. While buying something new is always a mood booster, you may already own items that, by adding just a few pieces, can go from blah to fab. Here are some ideas on outfits that will make getting together with friends and family that much more appetizing.
A printed midi skirt can go a long way in making a statement, while still being stylish and comfortable. Depending on the temperature outside, pairing a midi skirt with a pair of tall boots and a sweater looks great while keeping you warm.
Here's another great printed skirt option. I listed a midi length skirt but a knee length skirt works just as well. You can keep it neutral with an ivory sweater and brown boots.
Floral dresses were all the rage last summer. Why not bring them out of the closet during the holidays? Long sleeve dresses work well while pairing with tall boots and gives it an instant winter vibe.
If you're wearing a short sleeve dress, make sure you're sticking to darker undertones as to avoid looking too summery. Top it off with a coat long enough to cover your dress. Pairing the dress with tall boots makes it appropriate for holiday events, and makes walking into your relative's house with apple pie in hand that much more delicious!
Sweater dresses are great. I love the simplicity of the outfit. Warm, toasty and super chic!
Sweater dresses need not be complicated. Add a printed bag, wear with flat boots and add a belt. You can always opt for a flat, especially if you're going to be chasing the kids around the house!
If you're more of a minimalist, try a plain tee with a black double breasted blazer and add a kitten heel to dress it up. If you're going to do denim, opt for a darker wash or a black denim for a dressier vibe.
Sometimes all you need is a great sweater and a pair shoes with a bit of sparkle. Again, opt for darker denim for a dressier look. A shoe with a bit of sparkle always feels a bit more festive, and the lower heel won't have you ripping your shoes off by the time dessert rolls around. This may be the best option if you're hosting. You can swap the kitten heel shoes for a more comfortable flat. And don't forget to wear an apron!
Wishing you all a Happy and healthy Thanksgiving!
