Spring Jacket Edit
The weather is warming up but not quite warm enough to head out the door without an extra layer of clothing.
My hope is that the below looks serve as an inspiration to either pull already existing styles out of your closet and dust them off, or think about which style you may want to invest in for the current season.
1. Bomber Jacket
Here is influencer and style icon Grece Ghanem rocking a varsity bomber jacket
Bomber jackets have their roots in military aviation. They were first designed and worn by pilots during World War I and World War II as part of their flight gear. The original bomber jackets were made of leather and had a snug, comfortable fit with a front zipper, ribbed cuffs, and a waistband.
Over the years, the design of the bomber jacket has evolved, with variations made from different materials and featuring different styles.
Here are a few great options for those of you looking for a bit less "varsity" but still plenty of style.
2. Trench Coat
I'm seriously manifesting this ivory leather trench coat from Nili Lotan into my life.
Trench coats have a fascinating history that dates back to the 19th century. They were first designed and worn by British military officers during the First World War as a practical alternative to the heavy and cumbersome overcoats that were traditionally worn by soldiers.
Trench coats are versatile and can be dressed up or down, and their classic design has stood the test of time. Interestingly, some trench coats also have a secret feature – a buttoned flap on the back that was originally designed to allow soldiers to carry their backpacks without exposing their backs to rain.
They need not be traditional looking, rather try a different color like white or a different material such as leather to make the look fresh and exciting.
3. Track Jacket
I love the track jacket for a more casual look with denim or to offset black leather pants. The contrasting stripes on the sleeves add a sporty and athletic look. I prefer it a bit oversized for a more relaxed look.
4. Oversized Denim Jacket
Odds are you already have a denim jacket in your wardrobe. The oversized silhouette, however, is perfect for creating a bold look. When paired with a fitted outfit or a dress, an oversized jacket can create the perfect contrast that is both chic and effortless.
Whether dressed up or down, an oversized jacket can elevate any outfit and give it an edgy and fashionable feel. And if you want to add a different option to your wardrobe, try it in black, ivory or even a fun color.
5. Parka
I love the versatility of the parka jacket. It was originally designed for cold weather and outdoor activities. It has a long history that dates back to the early 20th century, when it was first worn by the indigenous peoples of the Arctic region.
It can be worn with just about anything. Stick with slim pants to offset the oversized shape of the jacket or wear it over a dress to give it an updated look.
